Eric Peterson, Ph.D.
Eric Peterson leads the Recycling and Reuse Focus Area for the Reducing Embodied-energy and Decreasing Emissions in Materials Manufacturing (REMADE) Institute, a member of the National Network of Manufacturing Institutes sponsored by Department of Energy and led by New York’s Rochester Institute of Technology. He is a Divisional Laboratory Fellow. He has spent the past 27 years performing research on polymeric and related materials focused on separations science and technology. His research has varied from the most fundamental understanding of molecular interactions to construction and proving of pilot facilities using the materials that he has been active in developing. His research emphasis is understanding of inter- and intra- molecular interactions that lead to interesting structure property relationships in polymer and solid state materials. During FY 2006 Eric served at the National Science Foundation in the Directorate of Engineering’s Chemical Transport Systems Division running the nationally visible Separation Processes and Purification Program as a Visiting Scientist Engineer/Educator (VSEE). He completed his full time position at NSF in October 2006 and followed up that assignment with a part time assignment at NSF as the Program Director for two newly started programs – “Explosives and Related Threats” and “Nuclear Detection” for FY 2007. Since his return to the Laboratory Eric has been active in developing energy efficiency and renewable energy focused programs.
