Bob Kinoshita has been integrating hardware and software at the Idaho National Laboratory for more than 20 years. He has worked on nuclear and analytical instrumentation, unmanned vehicles and industrial robotics. He also has experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems.
He earned his bachelor’s in physics and engineering physics and his master’s in mechanical engineering (controls) from Oregon State University. In the Idaho National Laboratory’s Energy Systems Integration office he has assumed software development for the biomass library, tracking more than 70,000 biomass samples accumulated as part of the bioenergy program. He has developed visualization for creation and editing of simulation input files for the Reactor Excursion and Leak Analysis Program (RELAP-7) and brought the Reactor Analysis and Virtual Control Environment (RAVEN) project to the Windows operating system. He has created software for use on robotic vehicles in support of several initiatives: The Countermine Mobility, Marking, Autonomy, and Detection (CMMAD) program; tunnel mapping initiative; Fukushima disaster response; Robot Intelligence Kernel (RIK) development (a commercially licensed 2006 R&D 100 award winner).
