Biography:

Trevor Atkinson is a research scientist at Idaho National Laboratory, performing research and development design and modeling to evaluate geological properties associated with the movement, heat transfer, water transport and solid mechanics of geological systems. His work supports field and laboratory activities within the Geothermal Energy and Subsurface Systems group, including running hydrothermal water-rock interaction experiments to understand geothermal and heat storage potential as well as carbon storage potential and rates via subsurface carbon mineralization. Before joining INL, he was an environmental scientist for the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality, conducting groundwater sampling and analysis with government officials and subcontractors for the department’s INL Oversight Program.​ He holds a master’s in geology from Utah State University and a bachelor’s in geology from Brigham Young University-Idaho.
