Rocklan McDowell

Research and Development Scientist

Research Areas:

Biography:

Rocklan G. McDowell, is a research scientist in the Aqueous Separations and Radio Chemistry Department at Idaho National Laboratory. In this capacity, he performs organic and inorganic identification and quantitation analyses, completes hydrolytic and radiolytic degradation studies of mixed aqueous and organic solvent systems, and studies reaction kinetics in mixed phase systems.

McDowell received his B.S. in chemistry and his B.A. in German from Idaho State University.  He has extensive experience in different facets of Analytical Chemistry. He has worked mainly with Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectrometry, gas chromatography (GC), gas chromatography - mass spectrometry (GC-MS), ion chromatography (IC), liquid chromatography (LC & HPLC), inductively coupled plasma - optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-EOS), inductively coupled plasma - mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), solvent extraction, and gross morphological techniques for both identification and quantitative analysis of unknown species.  Outside of work, McDowell is an avid golfer, enjoys snowboarding, hunting, and is a member of the Idaho Falls Elks Lodge.  He also enjoys traveling and exploring new places with his wife.
