Peter Zalupski
Research Scientist
Research Areas:
Biography:
Peter Zalupski, Ph.D., is a research scientist in the Aqueous Separations and Radiochemistry Group at Idaho National Laboratory. He has extensive knowledge of fundamental separation science, solution chemistry and radiochemistry. His research interests are focused on the development of efficient liquid-liquid separation schemes of the treatment of used nuclear fuel. His studies mainly target the thermodynamic understanding of the selectivity of extraction of actinides and fission products, which allows predictive modeling of the separation processes. He has developed a calorimetric method for the investigation of heats of metal distribution in two-phase systems to facilitate fundamental studies of liquid-liquid distribution equilibria. He has experience working with a variety of radioisotopes, handling highly-radioactive samples, and isotope production by neutron irradiation. He has a strong background in the analysis of solution equilibria including physicochemical profiling and metal complexation. He also has a broad knowledge of instrumental analysis: Calorimetry, Radiometric analyses, Potentiometry, UV-Vis, FTIR, ICP-OES, HPLC, IC, Karl Fischer, LC/MS, NMR, and Vapor Pressure Osmometry.
Dr. Zalupski holds a Ph.D. and B.S. in chemistry from Loyola University. He is a member of the American Chemical Society and the Industrial and Engineering Chemistry, and has numerous publications and presentations.
