Distinguished Staff Engineer

Research Areas:

Biography:

Lee Cadwallader is a distinguished staff engineer in the Fusion, Hydrogen and Measurement Sciences Department at the Idaho National Laboratory with over 30 years of experience.  He works primarily as a safety and risk researcher in the Fusion Safety Program.  In this capacity, he performs magnetic fusion safety and reliability studies and is the US home team responsible officer for reliability and safety for the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) international project. In addition to that work, he conducts laboratory safety walkthroughs of US, Japanese, and Chinese fusion experiments and facilities. Mr. Cadwallader is also the lab manager for the FSP Safety and Tritium Applied Research (STAR) lab and the High Temperature Electrolysis lab.  He has experience in component failure data evaluations, risk assessment, safety and risk research, and gaseous fuel alternate energy safety studies. He specializes in component failure data collection and analysis, operating experience data analysis, accident-initiating event data analysis, and system failure event information for public and worker safety assessment.
