Biography:
Lance Cole is a mechanical engineer in the VHTR Technology Development Department at Idaho National Laboratory. In this capacity, he provides technical support for the Advanced Gas Reactor (AGR) Fuel Development Program to develop and test prototype coated particle fuel for the Very High Temperature Reactor (VHTR).
Cole has more than 30 years of diverse experience in the nuclear industry including coordinating equipment design, construction and qualification of nuclear test train disassembly equipment for post irradiation examination in a nuclear hot cell; assembling nuclear fuel specimen test trains for irradiation in the ATR reactor; handling highly enriched irradiated and unirradiated nuclear fuel elements and fissile material; glove box and hood work repackaging uranium oxides and uranium metal and supervising the chemical dissolution of these materials for uranium extraction. He holds a B.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Utah. Outside of work he enjoys the outdoors including hunting and fishing.
