Biography: Brett W. Carlsen is a research engineer at Idaho National Laboratory involved in fuel cycle research and development. He is involved in evaluation and screening of nuclear fuel cycles based on environmental impacts, safety and security, economics, and development and deployment challenges. He participated in and led several multi-laboratory teams associated with evaluating performance and was responsible for management and use of the INL’s fuel cycle simulation software, VISION. He was involved in the Global Threat Reduction Initiative, leading a small design team tasked with development of a low-cost storage system for radioactive source terms at various sites around the world. He holds a master’s in nuclear engineering from North Carolina State University and a bachelor’s in general engineering from Idaho State University.
