Biography:

James Madden is currently working as a Senior Laboratory Engineer in the EML (Electron Microscope Lab), FASB (Fuels and Applied Science Building) and IMCL (Irradiated Materials Characterization Laboratory), Material and Fuels Complex - INL, east of Idaho Falls. In this position, his responsibilities include numerous administrative duties, coordination of work activities, training and technical support functions for radioactive samples and equipment (SEM, FIB, LEAP and TEM), examination and analysis. Madden is regularly asked to develop processes for sample preparation, collect data, propose explanations, and discuss possible results within projects and administrative groups. In addition, he has extensive experience in maintaining SEM/FIB equipment, their associated support equipment, hands on repair and interacting with vender support. Madden supports three lab design/upgrade teams: (1) EML to upgrade/modification of equipment to modernize operations, (2) IMCL to provide tool selection and installation for the multimillion-dollar facility and (3) Sample Preparation Laboratory (SPL) lab initial design/development teams. In the past, he also developed procedures and methods that proved highly radiated material and nuclear fuel samples could be prepared with a FIB for TEM/SEM/LEAP examination. In addition to his MFC duties, Madden is assisting CAES management with operational support of the research equipment in the MaCS Imaging Suite at CAES (Center for Advanced Energy Studies), assisting in equipment management and vendor support. He was awarded CAES affiliate status for 2015-2016 academic year. He is the senior SFR (Subcontract Field Representative) in charge of vendor support, parts appropriation, training new SFR and overseeing their duties among the PIE research laboratories at MFC. Madden also volunteered with the Bonneville County Sheriff (2013-0216) as a patrol officer and was selected as volunteer of the year for Bonneville County in 2014.

13 years military aviation experience which includes worldwide flight and ground operations in the KC-135 and RC-135 aircraft in the following regions: North America, Central America, Far East, Europe, Mediterranean and the Persian Gulf areas. Additional duties also included administrative, safety and training functions. As Assistant Flight Commander, Madden provided additional managerial and supervisory support to the Flight Commander; Instructor Pilot, providing proficiency and upgrade flight training for squadron personnel; and administrative support in flight scheduling, planning and ground safety. He also has experience as a Current Operations Officer in support of the SR-71 refueling operations in the Pacific, providing mission planning products, takeoff, and in-flight weather planning documents to the crews, coordinating aircraft maintenance, aircraft assignments and directing the current mission. Madden qualifies for Disabled Veteran Status.
