Muhammad Abir, Ph.D.

Postdoctoral Research Associate - Advanced Radiation Imaging

Research Areas:
Automatic image analysis ; Computer aided diagnosis; Image processing algorithm development; Neutron diffraction and imaging

Biography:

Dr. Muhammad Abir is a post-doctoral research associate at the post-irradiation examination (PIE) department at Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC) at INL. He is conducting research in the areas of neutron diffraction and imaging, automatic image analysis, image processing algorithm development, etc.  He is currently the Principal Investigator (PI) for the neutron diffraction, as well as the PI for neutron microscope to enable to high resolution neutron tomography at INL.                                                                                                                                             Prior experience includes research at INL as an intern, where he worked for neutron tomography. At the Missouri University of Science and Technology, he worked as graduate research and teaching assistant in the Advanced Radiography and Tomography Laboratory where he developed sparse view neutron tomography and tomosynthesis algorithm using optimization methods for radioactive nuclear fuel inspection. He has also worked as an instructor in radiation measurement and spectroscopy laboratory for beta, gamma and neutron detection using radiation detectors, and has taught compressed sensing method, analytical, and statistical CT reconstruction algorithms (FBP, ART, SART, SIRT, ML-EM, OS-EM) to graduate students.
