Don Maiers

Laboratory Manager

Research Areas:

Biography:

Donald T. Maiers performs laboratory management in the research and development environment for approximately 30 biotechnology and materials characterization laboratories within the EES&T Directorate. He has made key contributions to the development of the Conduct of Research procedure for the laboratory, which defines roles, responsibilities, authorities, and accountabilities (R2A2s) for staff and research management as well as the standards and expectations for conducting research.

Prior to his position as a  laboratory manager, he was the manager for INL's biotechnology organization. He led a team of microbiologists, chemical engineers, biochemists, and bioinformaticians to develop department business plans and marketing strategies. He holds a bachelor’s degree in biology and secondary education from University of Wisconsin and had pursued graduate course work at Sam Houston State University and Idaho State University. In addition to his INL assignments, he also worked on a six-month outplant assignment to DOE Office of Science and Technology in Washington, D.C. This assignment enabled him to establish a strong network of industry researchers and managers, and federal program managers.
