Biography:

Michael Heighes is an R&D Scientist/Engineer II at Idaho National Laboratory who has completed several training courses related to material testing ranging from, but not limited to, National Instruments LabVIEW Core 1 to Instron Operator’s courses in Bluehill and Console for 8800. After seven years as an ASE certified automotive technician, Michael went on to receive his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Idaho State University in 2011 and is currently pursuing his master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Idaho State University.  As a researcher at INL, in 2015 he received the Laboratory Director’s Award for work on irradiation assisted stress corrosion cracking and the Associate Laboratory Director’s Award for enhancing remote tensile testing capabilities on irradiated stainless steels. Michael continues to maintain and look to increase the capability of the irradiation assisted stress corrosion cracking equipment at the Idaho National Laboratory.
